Get flying with Balloon Rides in the Sky

If you’re a fun-lover and want to soak in the lap of nature with a thrilling experience, then Araku Balloon Festival is the place to be. The picturesque valleys of Araku will witness a three-day festival of hot-air balloons on January 18, 19 and 20 where people from 15 countries will be participating in the event.

The three-day festival will kick off with balloon flights in clear skies, followed by excursions to coffee plantations and waterfalls during the day for the travelling media, travel and tour operators and international balloonists. In the evenings, the spectators can witness a scintillating nightglow of balloons, tethered flights and para-motoring displays where professional motorists will perform flybys and aerobatics. Visitors can also experience chopper rides and enjoy overnight campstays at the hill station.

The countries participating in the festival include India, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Slovakia, Italy, UK, Thailand, Netherlands, Germany, Japan USA, France, Spain, and Malaysia, with as many as 20 hot air balloons expected to paint the sky in various hues and colours.

The Balloon Festival is part of the state government’s efforts to boost tourism sector in the state. Araku is a popular hill station in Visakhapatnam district of the state which is famously known as “Andhra Ooty.” Located n the Eastern Ghats, Araku is home to a number of tribal communities in the region where one can visit Borra Caves, Tyda and Katiki Waterfalls as well as tribal museum. Dhmisa and Mayuri are popular tribal dances in the community that draw huge crowds.

While the first edition of the Araku Balloon Festival, which was organised in November 2017, faced a few obstacles due to unfavourable weather, the second edition is expected to go on unhindered, with the forecast predicting no rainfall in the coming the three days. To ensure that the event runs without any obstacles, a two-day trial also was held by the Tourism Department officials, who are conducting the event.
