Why YSRCP, TRS believe they can be kingmakers in Delhi

With multiple opinion polls and surveys for Lok Sabha elections indicating a hung Lok Sabha House, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) from Telangana and Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) from Andhra Pradesh are of the opinion that they could become crucial decision makers in such a scenario. The political parties from Telugu states believe that both have an advantage in their respective states.

In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has evinced interest in working with the TRS, which his father Y.S Rajasekhar Reddy had opposed and thwarted. Jagan had earlier made comments that he will work with the TRS if it helps them in their fight for special status. This has got Jaganmohan Reddy to also publicly commit to the fact that he will ally with TRS’ Federal Front if need be.

Meanwhile, TRS which won a thumping majority in the recently concluded Assembly elections is confident that it will win 16 out of 17 Lok Sabha seats from the State, while one would be sealed by their ally and friendly party AIMIM. On the other hand, Jagan who believes his party will come to power in the upcoming assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, believes that 25 MPs from AP and 17 MPs from Telangana with a total of 42 MPs will definitely be a crucial number for any PM-candidate to take note of.

“Any person in the race for the PM position cannot ignore the 42 MPs from Telugu States. We will be the decision makers and it is inevitable,” he said, in a TV interview. According to the TRS and YSRCP, they believe they will be in a “decisive position” as neither the Congress nor the BJP would be able to win any seats. Even if TRS-YSRCP combine have nearly 30-35 MPs from Telugu States, it could be an easy bargain for them at the Centre while the party/Front/Alliance that wants to rule India will definitely have to consider their demands.
