Andhra Pradesh: Raj Bhavan staffers, Kin of YSRCP MP test positive for Covid-19

Six members of the family of a leader of the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The total number of confirmed cases in the state is now 1,097.
The political leader in question is YSRCP Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Sanjeev Kumar. According to inputs, Dr Kumar's father, brother and four of their family members tested positive for Covid-19 on April 26. They are now undergoing treatment for the infection at the Kurnool Government General Hospital.
The MP from Kurnool, Dr Sanjeev Kumar is a urologist along with his wife who is also a doctor. On Sunday, four staffers of the Andhra Pradesh Raj Bhavan also tested positive for Covid-19. A chief security officer and a nursing staff employed by the Raj Bhavan are among those found infected.
Disinfection of Raj Bhavan premises in Vijayawada was done by spraying of sodium hypochlorite through drone as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of infection.
It was on April 25 that the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh surged past 1,000. The state now has over 1,097 confirmed cases of Covid-19. This figure includes 231 recoveries and 31 casualties.
Vijayawada: The new epicentre of cases
Vijayawada, the political capital of Andhra Pradesh, has become the new epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Out of the 222 cases reported from AP in the last three days, 110 — half — are of Vijayawada and surroundings, where several government establishments are. Such untraceable origins of infection among several other cases reported from Vijayawada have the Krishna district machinery jittery.
Lockdown not followed
Stringent restrictions on public movement could have helped avoid the disturbing numbers, health officials lament. “Lockdown passes were issued at will by the police allowing several people to move freely in the city,” a doctor said.
