After strong opposition, TTD puts off property auction

With strong opposition from several quarters include devotees and leaders from all over the country, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has stalled the auction process of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ (TTD) 50 immovable properties. 
According to the GO issued, the properties are located at Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand. “Keeping in view the sentiments of devotees, the government hereby directs TTD to re-examine the issue in consultation with different stakeholders like religious elders, opinion makers, section of devotees,” the government said in a statement.
Following the GO from the state government, there was opposition and uproar from religious as well as political institutions as well as general public. Gauging the mood of the people, the government has decided not to go ahead with its move. The government expected the properties to fetch it nearly Rs. 100 crore.
The statement from the government said that the proposed disposal of 50 properties by TTD will be kept in abeyance till the finalisation of the matter, while asking the executive officer of the Board to “take necessary action in this regard and submit compliance report immediately.”
On the other hand, the TTD has been asked to use these properties for other religious activities. According to sources, the ruling YSRCP is unhappy with the Opposition it received on its move to auction the properties.
