10 Killed in Fire accident at Kadapa Limestone unit

As the pandemic is claiming lives on one side, the state woke up to another shock over the weekend. At least 10 labourers are feared to have died in a blast at a limestone quarry in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa on Saturday. The incident took place at Mamillapalle village of Kalasapadu block.
At least 40 workers were present at the time of the incident. Relief and rescue operations for the others trapped under the debris have been launched.
The Chief Minister has expressed shock over the death of the labourers in the blast and inquired about the possible reasons behind the accident with the officials. He has ordered an inquiry into the matter and also conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the blast victims.
Meanwhile, TDP National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also expressed deep shock and grief over the death of the workers.
“Many others were injured in the explosion that took place while removing some rocks in the mines at Mamillapale in the Kalasapadu Mandal,” he said.
The TDP chief demanded immediate steps to provide better medical care to all those who were injured in the blast. “It is unfortunate the tragic incident took place claiming so many lives in the Chief Minister's native district,” Chandrababu Naidu said.
He sought an explanation on how mining works were allowed at a time when there was an 18-hour curfew in progress all over the state given the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
