The Real Story behind TDP Leader Atchannaidu’s arrest

Politics is a double-edged sword. The political parties that win the elections and become the ruling party always look for dirt on the Opposition and vice-versa. That is a never-ending cycle.
Wait…what scam?
Kinjarapu Atchannaidu was the Labour Minister in the previous Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government when the “scandal allegedly took place in the procurement of medicines and medical equipment.”
Why the drama? Why now?
If one had to understand the new alleged “scam” that the YSR Congress-ruled government in Andhra Pradesh is accusing former minister and senior TDP Leader L. Atchannaidu of, we need to understand why the drama unfolded now, exactly a year after Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy became the Chief Minister of the state.
Given that the panchayat polls are due in the state and the YSR Congress Party is looking to attract more MLAs and leaders from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), it had approached the “Yerram Naidu family” to defect to YSRCP as Srikakulam has been a TDP stronghold for a long time.
To be more precise, they had approached K. Atchannaidu to defect to YSRCP and go against TDP National President and former CM, N. Chandrababu Naidu. For a while now, party sources have been discussing the internal rumours of a senior TDP leader from Srikakulam jumping ship. But, for YSRCP, the plan turned upside down with Atchannaidu refusing to defect to the party.
Modus operandi against Opposition
With vengeance against the Opposition being the modus operandi of the current government which has been looking to create and frame TDP leaders in “illegal activities, violations or scams,” Atchannaidu’s refusal to join YSRCP was a reason to create a new scandal and make it “hit the headlines.” Well, for starters, YSRCP succeeded in the optics of creating a drama around the scam.
To jog your memory a bit, Atchannaidu was always the butt of jokes of the YSRCP in the Legislative Assembly. From being body-shamed by YSRCP MLA Roja to being bad-mouthed by YSRCP’s leaders in the house, Atchannaidu took all the insults and disrespect in his stride. Yet, he never stopped voicing opposition against the YSRCP’s misdeed and corruption. This is also one of the reasons why the Jagan government is currently targeting him.
If one looks at the big picture, this is also a warning shot to TDP leaders, senior and second-wrung ones, that if they choose to go against the Jagan-led government, this would be their fate — of being embroiled in scams and scandals.
However, it remains to be seen about whether the alleged Rs. 150 crore scandal holds any water.
