KIA Motors compelled to praise YSR who had no connection with its India entry

In a bizarre incident during the launch of Kia Motors’ Seltos at Penukonda in Ananthapur, the company CEO Kookhyun Shim had no option but to praise former Chief Minister of AP Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy as the person behind bringing the auto manufacturer to the state.
The battle between the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress over “who brought KIA Motors” has been a long one after Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy took over as the Chief Minister of the state. It is a well-known fact that former AP Chief Minister and TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu had began efforts to ensure KIA’s entry into the state during his South Korea tour for investments. And, it is a no-brainer to even argue about it.
But, in an interesting twist of story, YSR Congress which won people’s mandate in Andhra Pradesh elections, is believed to have forced the KIA Motors to give a letter stating that the initiative was taken by late YSR, who is actually not even connected to the entry of KIA as he passed away in 2009. However, YSRCP has managed to produce this letter in the state assembly and proved it to be a legitimate one.
Bowing down to the pressure of the YSRCP-led government in the state, Kia Motors-India conveniently forgot former Chandrababu Naidu at the launch of Seltos. Moreover, during the PowerPoint presentation by the CEO Mr. Shim on setting up of the industry from levelling the land to rolling out the car into the Indian market, there was no mention of the TDP government and Chandrababu Naidu’s efforts in assisting it establish the unit within two years of land acquisition.
In fact, Chandrababu Naidu ensured that land acquisition was done at a faster pace and also issued all permissions, including allocation of HNSS water, through a separate channel. The trial production of cars was launched on January 29 when the CEO and other representatives of the firm lauded Mr Naidu for his support.
Interestingly, the same CEO during his speech did not even take the name of Chandrababu Naidu during the entire launch event. He had also quoted the cooperation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in establishing their unit.
Meanwhile, YSRCP government representative, Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, while reading out the message of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, said that Kia was an effort of former CM late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy a decade ago when he invited the Kia representatives to set up their unit in AP. “Those efforts attained shape during his son Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s regime as chief minister," the finance minister said.
The TDP leaders soon jumped into action and said “the credit for establishing Kia Motors goes totally to our leader and former CM N. Chandrababu Naidu,” he said.
