What's in store for AP? Eery silence from Jagan on Kodela’s death sparks off rumours

Kodela Sivaprasada Rao belongs to the Telugu Desam Party politically, but no doubt, he was one of the senior-most politicians of Andhra Pradesh. He had served as a minister in TDP Founder and former AP CM Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s Cabinet as well as had a long innings in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet. He held key portfolios in undivided state and divided state of Andhra Pradesh including Home, Health, Major Irrigation, Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Civil Supplies. This is not all. He is the first Speaker of the AP Assembly post bifurcation.
Despite having continued his long stint in the politics of Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh CM Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s silence over Kodela’s death is a huge mystery to many in the political circles. Neither did Jagan pay condolences nor sent out a word about it, either through media or social media. This attitude of Jagan has raised many eyebrows in the state and in the neighbouring states as it is basic courtesy of the head of state to pay respects to the deceased who has held such important positions of power previously.
But, nothing seems to affect Jagan. Many in the state say that this is a new low in politics. Usually, when leaders of Kodela’s stature die, politicians across political parties send their condolences. Surprisingly, except for Botsa Satyanarayana, no other leader from the YSR Congress Party have actually paid respects or issued statements. While everyone thought Botsa paid respects, he unfortunately raised doubts on Kodela’s death which makes YSRCP look “inhuman” to many.
It is not yet known if the state government wants to give full state honours and pay respects to Kodela in his final rites. While TDP has used this issue and has demanded a CBI enquiry into the death, it is yet to be known whether the death was a suicide or was made to look like one, as TDP cadre alleges.
Irrespective of the political slugfest, it is unfortunate that a tall leader like Kodela had to bear the brunt of revenge politics of YSRCP and is insulted even after his departure from this world. This is a sign of things to come in Andhra Pradesh as Jagan and his old of men continue to “rule” it.
