Peek into History: A snapshot of industrial scenario in Telugu States

In Telangana State:
1. Coal mining - The Singareni Collieries was the first coalfield in the state. It was started in 1889 and closed in 1941 after the exhaustion of coal. The biggest coalfield was started at Kothagudem in 1939.
2. Hyderabad Iron and Steel Works Limited was established in Hyderabad in 1932. Praga Tools Corporation was started in 1943 with an authorized capital of Rs. 1 crore.

3. The Cement industry was started in 1925 with a capital of Rs. 35 lakh at Shahabad in Gulbarga district on the G.I.P. Railway. The company merged with the Associated Cement Companies Limited of India in August 1936.

4. The other major industry that developed from the 1920s is the Sugar industry. 
5. Handmade paper had been manufactured for many years and this industry provided work for as many as 5,000 persons.
6. Next to agriculture, the handloom industry was the most important occupation of the rural population of Hyderabad State.
7. IT Industry: After Karnataka, Telangana State (Hyderabad) contributes to the 2nd highest share of IT exports in the country. IT and IT-enabled services exports stood at Rs 75,070 crore during 2015-16, up 13.26 per cent from previous year. In 2014-15, the exports stood at Rs 66,276 crore. 
In Andhra Pradesh: 

1. Mineral-based industry: AP has huge deposits of bauxite. 90% of India’s barytes reserves as in Kadapa district, Manganese mining in Visakhapatnam, mica mining in Nellore, Seatite mining in Kurnool, diamond and gold mines in Anantapur.
2. Natural gas-based industries in Visakhapatnam and other coastal districts. Marine and aquaculture in the coastal districts. 
3. AP has a number of chemical and fertiliser industries.

4. Solar and wind energy in Rayalaseema region. 

5. Bangle industry existed in Kurnool, Anantapur, Nellore, Krishna and Vizag. 

6. Paper industry in Vijayawada and Guntur. 
7. Boat building in East Godavari in Tallarevu on Coringa River. 
8. Dyeing is a special industry near Kakinada. 
9. Small industry factories for cotton ginning, groundnut decorticating and rice hulling were introduced. 
10. Jute mills in Guntur, silk mill industry in East Godavari, Paper mill in Rajahmundry and cement factory in Vijayawada.  

11. Coir industry in Godavari districts. 

12. Sugar factories in Vijayawada.
