Police brutality has no bounds in AP as govt supports violence

Anyone witnessing Andhra Pradesh and the state of affairs there clearly knows by now about how the state government and the state police are on a revenge-seeking mode. But, the point is, against whom? It is a well-known fact that the YSR Congress Party has been constantly targeting the Telugu Desam Party to ensure that the party’s image is battered in the state.

In the process for political revenge, not is the TDP and its karyakartas facing the heat but innocent citizens, farmers, employees and every other person in the state is bearing the brunt of this political vendetta.

In this context, ever since the 3 capitals resolution has been withdrawn, the Amaravati farmers’ protest has gained massive momentum across districts. Not just that but many people are now voluntarily supporting the protest against the government. Interestingly, people are also not paying heed to the YSRCP’s propaganda in rubbishing the protest as a “TDP campaign against the government.”

In this regard, Amaravati farmers have faced police brutality time and again. In a shock to the participating men and women, in the protest, police destroyed bio toilets made available for women farmers. Worse off, they are now forced to relieve themselves in the open and are facing immense difficulty and safety issues.

In fact, it is a shameful act to even think that women have been stripped of their privacy to at least pee peacefully. In an attempt to request the state government to intervene, women farmers who were distraught appealed to the people of Andhra Pradesh on what kind of a “sadistic” government the people have elected and are now bearing the consequences of their wrongful decision.

Social media is rife with videos and images of women requesting and pleading with the police to restore bio-toilets for them. However, the state government and the police have been adamant about the whole issue and are making life difficult for the protestors.

Going by this, it is clear that police brutality and the government’s sadism is taking a toll on its own citizens. What kind of consequences these incidents will have on the state and the next election is something that will be interesting to witness.

Well, what is appalling is that the current government needs to realise that these protestors and other citizens suffering also are its votebank. Hence, upsetting the votebank may have its own repercussions for the over-confident YSR Congress party.
