Is BJP going to give KCR a ‘return gift’?

Telangana BJP Chief Bandi Sanjay was recently arrested by the Telangana Government allegedly for leaking the 10th class board exam paper. His arrest created a political ruckus in Telangana and put BJP in the state in a quandary.  Given that April 6th was BJP’s foundation day and that coincided with Hanuman Jayanti, which is an auspicious day and particularly significant for the BJP, Bandi Sanjay’s absence was conspicuous in all the party meetings and new joinings.

The arrest of Bandi Sanjay has also caused a lot of unrest within the party cadre. It has not just hit their morale but also has created a vengeful stance against the BRS party, which is in the government. Despite his release from prison, this arrest is also a message from the BRS to the BJP that it can resort to anything if the BJP doesn’t listen. While Telangana CM and BRS Chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao may feel he is right in his actions against the BJP to scare the party and its cadre, this move of arresting Sanjay could backfire badly for the pink party.

Let’s try and look at the consequences of Bandi Sanjay’s arrest. Well, for starters, the BJP from the Central High Command may take stock of the situation and what exactly happened, from Bandi Sanjay. The party biggies like Amit Shah have already found out about Bandi Sanjay’s time in jail and have asked him to go ahead with his fight against the BRS.

On the other hand, the central BJP leadership may also be planning to give a “return gift” to KCR, BJP sources say. Perhaps the return gift will come in the form of KCR’s daughter, K. Kavitha’s arrest very soon. Saffron party sources indicate that the BJP has not struck the wrong chord in Telangana till now.

But, with this arrest, the BRS has unnecessarily forced the BJP to take a hard stance against KCR. Given that Kavitha has been accused in the Delhi Liquor scam case and has been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate multiple times, she is very likely to be arrested. And, apparently, in the way that Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader (another accused in the Liquor scam case) Manish Sisodia was arrested. Sources also say that Kavitha’s arrest could actually be the “return gift” that BJP is promising BRS.

And, if the return gift turns out to be true, the BRS will use it to gain sympathy and play the woman card using Kavitha’s arrest. However, it remains to be seen how this will play out before the Assembly elections in Telangana, which are due this year-end.
