Telangana CM lays foundation for Rs 225 crore Basara temple renovation work

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday laid the foundation for the Basara temple renovation project, with expansion and development works to be undertaken at a cost of Rs 225 crore.

The Gnana Saraswati temple Basara is set for a major facelift, aimed at improving infrastructure and facilities for devotees visiting the historic shrine.

Telangana CM launches Basara temple development project

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers, the Chief Minister performed Bhoomi Puja at the temple in Basara town of Nirmal district.

Before the ceremony, he and his family offered prayers and participated in rituals amid Vedic chanting by priests.

Situated on the banks of the sacred Godavari river, also known as the “Dakshina Ganga,” the temple has a rich history spanning centuries.

According to legend, Veda Vyasa resided at Basara after the Kurukshetra war and consecrated the idols of Gnana Saraswati, Mahalakshmi, and Mahakali, making it a revered pilgrimage site.

Basara temple renovation to improve facilities for devotees

Devotees visit the temple to perform Aksharabhyasam, a traditional initiation into education for children.

With a rising number of visitors and limited facilities, the government has planned a comprehensive Basara temple development project to enhance infrastructure while preserving traditions.

Authorities consulted spiritual leaders before finalising the master plan, which includes expansion of the sanctum sanctorum, Artha Mandapam, Raja Gopuram, and other structures.

The built-up area will increase significantly, with improved temple streets, towers, and a temple tank to accommodate growing pilgrim footfall.

Facilities to be upgraded ahead of Godavari Pushkaralu

With Godavari Pushkaralu scheduled next year, lakhs of devotees are expected to visit Basara.

The government plans to develop all essential amenities under the Basara temple renovation works to ensure a smooth experience for pilgrims.
