The Central Government has extended the GST Appellate Tribunal appeal deadline to July 31, offering relief to taxpayers and businesses affected by technical issues on the GSTAT portal. The extension follows representations from stakeholders who reported difficulties due to a sharp increase in appeal filings.
The extension applies to appeals filed under Section 112(1) read with Section 112(3) of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, the Ministry of Finance said.
GST Appellate Tribunal appeal deadline extended to July 31
According to the Finance Ministry, the decision was taken after various stakeholders highlighted technical issues on the GSTAT portal caused by the heavy rush of appeal filings in recent days.
Earlier, through a notification issued on September 17, 2025, the government had fixed June 30 as the last date for filing appeals before the GST Appellate Tribunal.
The extension provides additional time for taxpayers to complete pending appeals without facing portal-related disruptions.
Heavy rush on GSTAT portal prompts extension
The ministry said nearly 30,000 appeals were filed during the last 15 days, with daily filings peaking at around 5,500 appeals.
Taxpayers have been advised to plan their appeal submissions well in advance and avoid waiting until the last day to prevent congestion on the portal.
Officials have urged businesses and tax professionals to use the extended deadline to ensure timely and error-free submissions.
GST and direct tax collections remain strong
The deadline extension comes amid steady growth in tax collections during the current financial year.
Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased 3.2% year-on-year to ₹1.94 lakh crore in May, while net GST collections rose 3.3% to ₹1.67 lakh crore. GST refunds also increased 2.6% to ₹27,281 crore.
According to the Income Tax Department, net direct tax collections rose 14.64% year-on-year to ₹5.21 lakh crore during the April 1–June 17 period of FY27, while gross direct tax collections increased 12.46% to ₹6.10 lakh crore.
The latest tax collection figures indicate continued resilience in India’s revenue growth despite global economic uncertainties.
