Digital India Completes 11 Years as PM Modi Says Initiative Redefined Governance and Empowered Citizens
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that the success of Digital India over the past 11 years has given India a new global identity. Marking the 11th anniversary of the flagship initiative, PM Modi said Digital India has transformed governance, empowered citizens, and accelerated inclusive development across the country.
PM Modi said this achievement reflects the country’s determination to embrace innovation and technology to reach new heights.
“Digital India is the strong foundation of a developed and self-reliant India. Over the past 11 years, it has played a crucial role in empowering the poor and deprived, while making the lives of citizens easier,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
“When over a billion people embrace technology, the impact is transformative,” PM Modi added.
PM Modi Highlights 11 Years of Digital India
From the expansion of optical fibre networks to digital transactions, the unprecedented success of this campaign has drawn global attention towards India.
“Today, we mark 11 years since the Digital India initiative was launched. This initiative has redefined governance, empowered citizens, and accelerated all-round development. It has touched every aspect of life,” PM Modi emphasised.
The Prime Minister said Digital India has become a global benchmark for citizen-centric digital governance and public service delivery.
Digital India Drives Governance, Financial Inclusion and Innovation
From seamless digital payments and direct benefit transfers reaching beneficiaries with transparency to the expanding Digital Public Infrastructure, technology has become a powerful instrument for furthering Ease of Living, said the Prime Minister.
Digital India has taken the wave of innovation to villages as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Young entrepreneurs, startups, and innovators from every corner of the country are creating solutions to pressing global challenges.
“This initiative has strengthened education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce and public service delivery, making governance more transparent, efficient and accessible,” PM Modi said.
The initiative has also accelerated financial inclusion through digital payments and expanded access to government welfare schemes across rural India.
PM Modi on AI, Semiconductors and India’s Digital Future
The Prime Minister further stated that India’s progress in the digital world has enabled rapid advancements in emerging technologies such as AI, semiconductors, quantum computing and more.
“This will open new avenues for growth and opportunity. Our focus will remain on creating a future where technology serves humanity, empowers every citizen and drives sustainable development,” PM Modi highlighted.
He reiterated that investments in emerging technologies will strengthen India’s position as a global digital innovation hub.

Over the past 11 years, India has built one of the world’s largest Digital Public Infrastructure ecosystems. Digital platforms have expanded healthcare, education, skilling, agriculture, and welfare access, especially in rural and underserved regions.
India has also emerged as a global leader in digital payments and digital governance innovation. With India Stack now reaching multiple countries, Digital India is strengthening India’s global leadership in inclusive, citizen-centric, and technology-driven development.
The success of Digital India continues to boost India’s reputation as a leader in digital transformation and public digital infrastructure worldwide.
