Japanese firms set to announce investments worth about $12.5 billion in India

The investment announcements are expected to strengthen bilateral economic ties and support India’s long-term manufacturing and infrastructure growth.

More than 150 Japanese companies are participating in the Japan-India Economic Forum, alongside the bilateral summit. The proposed investments form part of the broader commitment announced last year to facilitate 10 trillion yen in private Japanese investments in India over the next decade.

According to Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Masanao Ozaki, over 150 Japanese companies are participating in the Japan-India Economic Forum.

A report by The Yomiuri Shimbun noted that the planned investment initiatives, worth nearly 2 trillion yen, are aimed at expanding Japanese companies’ presence in India.

The fresh investment commitments are expected to create jobs, boost manufacturing, and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

India and Japan to Deepen Strategic Partnership

India and Japan are expected to discuss energy security, including joint stockpiling initiatives, while defence cooperation is also likely to receive a significant boost.

The talks are expected to focus on strengthening strategic cooperation amid evolving global geopolitical and economic challenges.

Make in India Gets Major Push with Maruti Suzuki Plant

In a major boost to the Make in India initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi are set to jointly inaugurate Maruti Suzuki India’s new manufacturing plant at Kharkhoda, Haryana.

The Kharkhoda facility is the company’s fourth manufacturing plant in India, with the cumulative investment across all Maruti plants estimated at around Rs 35,000 crore.

The new plant is expected to enhance India’s automobile manufacturing capacity and generate significant employment opportunities.

PM Modi and PM Takaichi Hold Bilateral Talks

Earlier, PM Modi welcomed PM Takaichi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Before their meeting, the Japanese Prime Minister paid respect to the national flags of both countries.

Ahead of her visit, Takaichi emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation with India in strategic partnership, economic security, investment, and innovation.

The visit highlights the growing importance of India-Japan relations in the Indo-Pacific region and global supply chains.
