The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has created one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems, with more than 104 crore health records linked to over 93 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) accounts, according to an official fact-sheet released on Monday. The milestone highlights India’s accelerating digital health transformation and efforts to make healthcare more accessible, efficient and citizen-centric.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Crosses 104 Crore Linked Health Records
The healthcare initiative is helping build a citizen-centric digital healthcare ecosystem by enabling secure management of health records, reducing paperwork, shortening hospital waiting times and seamlessly connecting patients with hospitals, doctors and insurers through a unified digital platform.
Launched in September 2021, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission aims to create the digital backbone needed to achieve universal health coverage by making healthcare services more accessible, efficient and interoperable across India.
The rapid adoption of ABDM reflects the growing acceptance of digital health services among citizens and healthcare providers.
ABHA Accounts Power India’s Digital Healthcare Network
The Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) serves as a unique digital health identifier that securely links individuals with their medical records across hospitals, laboratories, insurers and national health programmes, subject to patient consent.
The government has also launched Aarogya Setu 2.0 as a citizen-facing digital health application under ABDM.
The upgraded platform enables users to:
- Create ABHA accounts
- Manage digital health records
- Book teleconsultations
- Schedule hospital appointments
- Access insurance information
- Locate nearby healthcare facilities
- Monitor personal health through wearable device integration
These services aim to improve convenience while promoting paperless and integrated healthcare delivery.
Scan and Share Service Reduces Hospital Waiting Time
According to the fact-sheet, the National Health Authority’s Scan and Share service has significantly reduced outpatient registration time at hospitals.
As of June 18, more than 23.21 crore ABHA-linked digital tokens had been generated at healthcare facilities.
The government has also provided financial incentives to accelerate digital adoption:
- Over ₹107 crore to hospitals
- More than ₹2.95 crore to diagnostic centres, laboratories and pharmacies
- More than ₹26 crore to digital solution companies
The incentive programme has encouraged faster onboarding of healthcare institutions into India’s digital health ecosystem.
e-Sushrut Clinic Expands Digital Healthcare Access
More than 2,200 healthcare facilities have been onboarded through the e-Sushrut Clinic platform.
Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the lightweight hospital management information system helps smaller clinics digitise patient records and administrative processes.
The initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare digitisation, particularly among small and medium healthcare providers across the country.
