Congress making significant strides in Telangana?

The Congress party has been out of power in Telangana since 2014, after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) (now known as BRS) came to power following the bifurcation of the state. The BRS, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, has won two consecutive assembly elections in the state.

The Congress has been struggling to regain its lost ground in Telangana, and its victory in the Karnataka elections is seen as a major boost for the party. The Congress party is currently in the opposition in Telangana. The party has 23 MLAs in the 119-member Telangana assembly. The BRS has 90 MLAs, while the BJP is the second-largest party in the assembly with 21 MLAs.

The Congress party is facing a number of challenges in Telangana. The party is divided into two factions, one where believers of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu defected into the party and the other, led by former Congress veterans in the state. The party is also facing a lack of popular support from several communities in the state.

The party’s victory in Karnataka has given the party a much-needed boost in Telangana. The party is hoping that its victory in Karnataka. Will help it to overcome its internal divisions and lack of popular support. The party is also hoping that the TRS government will lose popularity in the coming months due to its handling of the state’s affairs; making a huge noise about the misuse of Dharani portal (for land registrations); KCR’s daughter Kavitha’s alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor scam.

The Congress party is also hoping to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment in Telangana. The BRS government has been in power for nearly 10 years, and there is a growing sense among. The people that the government is not doing enough to address their concerns. The Congress party is hoping to tap into this sentiment and win the next assembly elections in Telangana.

Even the recent defection of BJP’s leaders Ponguleti and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy into Congress is giving a major fillip to the party. There are also rumours that many other BJP leaders shall be moving into the party, following the recent exit og BJP Telangana leaders from the party. For now, this makes Congress well-positioned to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment in the state, and it could potentially win the next assembly elections with a huge support from the Reddy community while it also cashes in on other communities, with Revanth Reddy at the helm.

On the other hand, Congress party’s position in Telangana politics in the coming months and years will also be determined by:

  • The ability of the Congress party to overcome its internal divisions and lack of popular support.
  • The emergence of new political parties in Telangana.
  • The national political landscape and the position of Congress across India.

Therefore, this indicates that the Congress party will have to navigate. A number of challenges if it wants to regain its lost ground in the state. However, the party has a chance to win the next assembly elections if it can capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment. In the state and focus on several pressing issues which have been major. Drawbacks of the BRS government and its failed promises.
