Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy recently directed the education department officials to take measures to get CBSE affiliation for all government schools in the state and instructed them to ensure that students write CBSE exams in 2024.
According to this new idea, every school should have a playground and directed the officials to map schools without playgrounds, acquire required lands and allot playgrounds to those schools and add them to ensure playgrounds in pre-high schools in the coming days.
Despite being in a pandemic, the attendance of students in August stood at 73 per cent, while it was 82 per cent in September and 85 per cent in October and added that it stands at 91% currently. The Chief Minister said, “The main objective of the ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme is to increase the enrolment of students in schools and added that there is a condition that the children must have a minimum of 75 per cent of attendance to get eligibility for the scheme.”
He also asked officials to prepare an action plan to make one lakh available at every school for maintenance works. The officials proposed that they would like to give rankings on the performance of schools through social audit and the Chief Minister directed them to speak to teachers in this regard.
Many are raising questions on how State Syllabus-driven schools should suddenly be converted into CBSE, as suggested, given that it will need a complete overhaul of the current state-run education system.
While this move requires teacher training in multiple ways, it also requires CBSE teachers who have prior experience in introducing the syllabus to students who may not be well-equipped to shift to CBSE for SSC. Will this move ensure quality education? or will conversion of syllabus make it harder for students and also push them to drop out more?
That’s something only time will tell.
